Urban Alternative

The Urban Alternative provides a six lane urban typical section from just south of Prevatt Creek to the northern city limits. The typical section would provide a restricted median, turn bays, bike lanes, sidewalks and grassed utility areas. An alignment shift referred to as the West RR Overpass Option from Alligator Creek north to S.R. 100 would provide an overpass for the railroad spur and flatten out the existing curve. In the downtown area between S.R. 100 and S.R. 16, the proposed typical section has an additional continuous through/right-turn lane in each direction, which provides needed capacity for additional through and right-turn traffic. North of the city limits a four-lane rural typical section is proposed to the end of the project limits.

What is a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study?

A Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study is a detailed process by which major transportation projects are developed by the Florida Department of Transportation.

The objective of a PD&E Study is to perform preliminary engineering studies to address the transportation and safety needs and to evaluate potential social, natural and physical environmental impacts. These studies are used to support the decisions concerning if and where the improvements should be built. This process has been authorized by Florida Statues to comply with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and to secure Federal Government approval of the environmental documents.
