A Florida Department of Transportation project to improve drainage on King Street (S.R. 5A) will begin in January 2011. The project limits extend from the San Sebastian River to just east of Malaga Street. Work includes replacing underground pipes and constructing a new backflow prevention system at the San Sebastian River. Construction is scheduled to begin January 10, 2011 and expected to take approximately three months to complete, barring any unforeseen conditions such as rainy weather or findings of historical significance. Traffic impacts will be necessary on King and Malaga streets and San Sebastian Drive during construction and will include an eastound King Street detour. Normal work hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays - Thursdays and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays, but can occur at anytime. MASCI of Port Orange has been hired to do the work at a cost of $576,918.09.
