Counties: Alachua
Cities: Williston
Overview
Project Began: July 2010
Expected Completion: Early August 2010
Project Description

The railroad crossing on State Road (S.R.) 500/U.S. 27 just west of Southeast Eighth Street in Williston is scheduled to be replaced and will close the road for two days next week, according to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The closure is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28 and be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, July 30, barring any unforeseen conditions including rainy weather.

Florida Northern Railroad has hired R. W. Summers Railroad Contractor, Inc. of Bartow to replace the old crossing with a new one that is designed to last longer and hold up better under heavy traffic.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on Main Street, east on NE 30th Street/County Road(C.R.) 316 and north on SE Eighth Street back to U.S. 27/S.R. 500. Westbound motorists will use the same detour in the opposite direction.

The Williston Police Department will have off-duty officers to assist with the closure and detour. Message signs are scheduled to be in place by July 21 to warn of the closure. Signs will also be placed along the detour route to direct motorists.
