Affected Areas
Roads: State Road 349, U.S. 27
Counties: Lafayette
Cities: Branford
Overview
Project Began: April 2010
Expected Completion: Winter 2010
Project Description

A Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project along eight miles of State Road (S.R.) 349 in Lafayette County is scheduled to begin Monday, April 19. The project begins at the Dixie County line and ends at U.S. 27, just west of Branford.

The project includes removing the top layer of pavement and replacing it with new asphalt, adding five-foot paved shoulders on both sides of the road and replacing drainage pipes beneath some driveways.

During construction, motorists should expect lane closures between 7 a.m. and dusk, Mondays through Thursdays and on Fridays when necessary. Motorists entering the road from side streets and driveways during lane closures where flaggers are not present should watch for traffic heading in the same direction before pulling out to make sure they do not drive into oncoming traffic.

Crews are expected to begin with drainage work near the Dixie County line, followed by preparing the shoulders for paving and repaving of the travel lanes. Lane closures will begin when work starts on the shoulders.

Anderson Columbia Company of Lake City has been hired by FDOT to complete the $2.8 million project. An average of 2,300 vehicles per day travel this section of roadway, which was last resurfaced in 1991.
